First Anglo-Powhatan War

The First Anglo-Powhatan War occurred in 1614 because of the new leader of Virginia's, Lord De La Warr’s actions against the Natives. The settlers were very destructive during this war. It ended in a peace settlement that was sealed with the marriage of Pocahontas to John Rolfe.


Second Anglo-Powhatan War

The Second Anglo-Powahatan War of 1644 was the Natives' last attempt at dislodging the Virginians. They did not win, and because of the peace treaty that ended the war, they were banished from the area forevermore.

Significance

  • Example of Indian conflict. Led to complete defeat of Powhatan Indians.
