Background

Enclosures were what people in England were converting their farmlands to. Because of this, they did not need farm workers anymore so they were many displaced farmers. These people became indentured servants to the New World.

Ended traditional rights to farm and otherwise subsist on the lands of others.

Significance

• With no other place to go, people sought to become indentured servants in the New World.
