Pocahontas was the daughter of the Indian chieftain Powhatan, whose tribe interacted with early settlers of the Virginia Company. The Indian tribe took the settlers’ leader, John Smith, and held a mock execution for him which was stopped by Pocahontas. This simulation was to show the settlers that the Indians were willing to help and cooperate with them and so Pocahontas became an intermediary between the two groups. She married a settler, John Rolfe and traveled to England with him, however she died before being able to return.
This fits into disenfranchised groups because the settlers did not treat the Natives as equals and Pocahontas worked to allow the two groups to work together.
