Powhatan

Powhatan was a chieftain who had taken over several dozen small tribes in the James River area in 1607. He was who the settlers from the Virginia Company met and they called all of his tribes collectively the “Powhatan Confederacy”. Also, they wrongly called all the people of these tribes “Powhatans”. Powhatan’s Indians and the settlers had an always tense relationship with many ups and downs including De La Warr’s belligerent tactics, the union of Pocahontas and John Rolfe and the series of Indian attack in 1622.
This fits into disenfranchised groups because most natives were treated unfairly. It also fits into foreign and domestic policy because the settlers had to deal with the Natives and the Natives had to deal with the settlers.
